If you aren’t already familiar with the National Ugly Mugs service, then here’s everything you need to know about this fantastic organisation and why you should sign-up:
What or who are the National Ugly Mugs?
National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is a safety service that provides anyone who works in the adult industries with support and information to prevent or cope with an abusive or violent attack.
If you’ve ever been unfortunate enough to encounter an offensive, creepy or violent client who pestered you, made verbal threats or launched a sexual or physical attack on you, then you’ll know what a distressing experience it can be.
Apart from any painful physical injuries, these attacks can knock your confidence and can put you out of business or make your personal life difficult to separate from your professional one.
In those circumstances, you probably wished that you’d had a way of checking if that client had a reputation for abuse or violence before accepting his booking, that you had some proper support to recover from your ordeal or some way to protect other escorts from the same horrible experience.
This is where NUM comes in.
What do they actually do?
NUM provide a free alert service. They are the first reporting organisation to collate national information about dangerous individuals who pose a threat to the safety of anyone working in the adult industries and share it with their members.
To benefit, all you need to do is register your contact details with them. Once they have your mobile number or email address – which they will never share with anyone else – they will send you alerts about the people you should avoid.
This might include the phone number or physical description of a dangerous or threatening individual, so the next time someone tries to book your time, you can check that they’re not listed on NUM’s database of offenders.
If you’ve been the victim or a theft, assault or sexually violent crime, they will be on hand to give you free advice and support and if you give your consent, to share your report with the police.
If you don’t want to be involved with the police, you can consent to letting NUM share information about your experience with the authorities anonymously. However, if you want to pursue a conviction, then you may need to provide your details.
You will never be put under any pressure to give any form of consent from NUM.
How do I sign up?
Simply complete their short registration form and you’ll get instant access to their service.
Does it cost me anything?
Not a penny.
However, vital services like NUM do need funding to stay in operation. To help them do that, we’re running an auction-style competition. By entering you could win a promotional package for your escort or masseuse service on Vivastreet while helping NUM to raise their much-needed funds.
If you don’t want to take part in the competition but want to support this really valuable service anyway, then simply register your details and become a member or follow, share and promote the organisation via Twitter @NationalUglyMug.
